Juveniles
Dr. Tony Fabelo, Director of Research for the CSG Justice Center, presented “Strengthening Juvenile Probation: Emerging Challenges and Issues” to a January 31, 2008, summit of all Texas juvenile probation chiefs in Austin. Fabelo provided an analysis of emerging trends that will impact juvenile probation and a framework identifying areas to strengthen juvenile probation policies in Texas. The report was prepared at the invitation of and in collaboration with the Texas Juvenile Probation Commission, which sponsored the summit.
Immigration
On February 1, 2008, Dr. Tony Fabelo, Director of Research for the CSG Justice Center, presents the framework “Immigration Reform and State Criminal Justice: An Overview of Emerging Issues” to the joint hearing of the Texas House Corrections Committee and Committee on County Affairs, held in Richardson. The presentation was designed to guide the committees in their review of policies related to the identification and processing of illegal aliens in the state justice and correctional system. The committees, chaired by Rep. Jerry Madden (R-Plano), Justice Center board member, plan to issue recommendations to strengthen policies in this area.
